ROBOTICS CLUB IIT DELHI

IIT Delhi is a premier institute for budding technologists. One of the emerging fields in the world of technology is robotics. Robotics is the branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation, structural disposition, manufacture and application of robots. The IITD Robotics club provides students with resources to develop robots. It helps to research, design and build new robots that serve various practical purposes including domestic, commercial and military.

Spreading knowledge on robotics and its diverse applications is one of the primary motives of the robotics club at IIT Delhi. It stands by the acronym TEAM “Together Everyone Achieves More”. The club was founded under the guidance of Prof. S.K.Saha (Department of Mechanical Engineering), with the solitary objective of participating in the ROBOCON competition in 2002. Over the years it has diversified to many other objectives. Well defined goals, an organized and disciplined work structure and motivated members are the features of the club.

The club helps its members display and develop their knowledge and machine building skills. Their projects include:

Robomuse 3X
Robomuse 3X

Robomuse 3X – It was designed for video surveillance of indoor environments, to be operated by a human as well as to transverse a pre-defined path autonomously. It is capable of detecting obstacles with the help of ultrasonic sensors and presence of a human with the help of a camera.

Pole Climber

Pole climber – It is a purely mechanical stopping system so that the robot can be stopped anywhere on the pole and the load on the motor can be decreased.

Holonomic Line Follower
Holonomic Line Follower

Holonomic Line Follower – The bot was able to meet the set targets of following a straight line at high speeds, maneuvering sharp curves at moderate speeds, and detecting and maneuvering right angled turns whose approximate distance was pre-fed to bot.

There are many other noteworthy robotic projects undertaken by the robotics club IITD. It aims at improving the participation in competitions, in technical festivals around the country.
